The Time of India reports that the Supreme Court has refused to order passive euthanasia - withdrawal of life support - in the case before it, relating to Aruna Shanbaug, who was in a persistent vegetative state
after a vicious attack over 37 years ago. However, the court
has laid down guidelines (albeit somewhat onerous) for other patients. This seems like a step forward in the world's largest democracy.
