He does a good hatchet job on it in The End of Faith, too. And really, this is the sort of relativism that can lead people to an excessive tolerance of harmful practices.

What he doesn't acknowledge is that people like Gilbert Harman have much more sophisticated views that can't be rebutted so simply.Russell Blackfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12431324430596809958noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24761391.post-87659032612356329162011-01-12T02:40:50.915+11:002011-01-12T02:40:50.915+11:00What Axxyaan said. What Axxyaan said.NewEnglandBobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07190715223856189053noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24761391.post-45897873464470440092011-01-12T00:55:52.247+11:002011-01-12T00:55:52.247+11:00I look forward to reading the review.
One thing ...I look forward to reading the review.

One thing to float before I've read the review is your contention that "one more rebuttal of (relativism), especially by a popular author, can't be a bad thing."

I think it can be if the rebuttal is bad. Especially if it is very bad in very obvious ways. A bad rebuttal will re-enforce arguments that relativists can make against non-specialists (like me). "Non-reltivism relies on obviously wrong argument X, so you must accept relativism" etc.Tony Lloydhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03740295390214409286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24761391.post-26666187497473845982011-01-11T22:32:06.829+11:002011-01-11T22:32:06.829+11:00I would think that, your views being heretical, is...I would think that, your views being heretical, is part of what makes them worthwhile. Even in the end it should turn out you are wrong, the fact that you made points others had to think through makes your contribution of value. So I will gladly read your heretical views.Axxyaannoreply@blogger.com
